DRAMA
The purpose of SOPA'S Drama Department is to incorporate
professional theater skills with a fun and safe experience for
everyone involved.
Our curriculum is hands on and learning by doing so attendance and participation is very important.
The season starts with scene and character study. We spend several weeks exploring our production by using different acting methods, learning basic music sight reading, accompanied by theatrical choreography, and auditioning. The next step in our program is auditions.
Each student will audition for a part in the show. Each student receives a part in the show as long as they have been enrolled in the class since the beginning of the season. This is the new policy that we feel it is vital to the process. Any student joining the class after this time period will be involved with the technical part of the show and as an understudy only. When students are involved with our drama department they not only have the opportunity to be an actor in the shows but are also able to learn about all the aspects of what takes place behind the scenes as well. They can assist and learn about the technical side of drama such as learning how to work a sound and lighting board. The students assist with sets and props and can earn the opportunity to be a student director or assistant stage manager. There are many career paths a student can take in the field of the arts and it is our goal to introduce them to as many venues as possible.
